Starts April 19th

Writing Camp

Greetings from the Creative Writing Department at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. We're writing to let you know about our summer Young Writers' Workshop for rising 9th-12th grade students, to be held Tuesday, June 15-Saturday, June 19, 2010, on the campus of UNCW.The Young Writers' Workshop is an annual camp that brings together approximately 30 high school students from all over the region to study the craft of writing. Attendees participate in daily creative writing exercises, craft lectures, writing workshops, and readings. The workshop is directed and run by master’s degree candidates and professors in UNCW’s Department of Creative Writing, giving the attendees a chance to study their craft with published, working writers. The workshop is designed to meet the needs of young writers of varying abilities and experience levels while covering the many facets of writing and the writing life. Although students are asked to submit a work of creative writing in one genre (poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction), campers will receive instruction in all genres. The Young Writers' Workshop is a place for aspiring writers to experiment with their stories and poems, meet other writers, and follow their creative interests in a safe, nonjudgmental environment. The workshop fee of $495 covers tuition, housing, and three meals a day. Payment is due upon registration. To register a student for the Young Writers' Workshop online, please send your mailing address to youngwriterscamp@uncw.edu. If you'd like more information about the camp, please visit http://www.uncw.edu/writers/outreach_young.html or see the attached pdf brochure.

We look forward to working with your talented young writers this summer!Sincerely,Alexis Finc, Rod McClain, and Jason NewportCoordinators, UNCW Young Writers' Workshop
